Recently our team at SiDEX completed a combination window replacement in Elkhorn, WI, for the Windom family. The Windom family wanted to make their home have more of an open concept, and they wanted to have the option to open their windows as the old window system didn’t actually have an option to open the window. They needed to find a reliable local home improvement company that could install their window and make it so their home had more of an openness to it. After a short search they came across our team at SiDEX, and upon seeing not only our reviews but also our previous works, they decided to reach out. Upon inspection our team realized that getting this project done would be a 3-D puzzle as the window frame itself was leaning outward from the clients house.
Our team quoted the window replacement and the Windom family was very happy with our pricing. We got to work by first dismantling the window as well as the roof/canopy area, seat board, trimmings, and all supports underneath the old window. Our team then reframed the wall itself with the intent of flattening it, we accomplished this by adding in framing to close in the bump out that previously held the old window. By doing this we created a new rough opening for the new 3 panel flat window that we installed. The new 3 panel flat window is bigger than the previous window but it now sits flush in the wall, after this was installed we finished the project out by adding a new exterior trim to the area as well as new flashing & caulking. The Windom family was overjoyed with their new window, leaving us a 5 star review where they say we did an excellent job with the window installation.
Description of Combination Window Replacement in Elkhorn, WI
- Remove the combination window unit: Carefully dismantle the window, including the roof/canopy, seat board, and supports underneath. Strip back any surrounding trim, siding, or flashing
- Reframe the Wall: You’re essentially flattening the wall again. Add framing to close in the bump-out. Create a new rough opening for the 3-panel flat window — this is typically wider than a standard single window but sits flush with the wall.
- Install the New 3-Section Window: This can be either factory-made 3-section unit, or a 3 individual windows mulled (joined) together. Make sure it’s level, properly insulated, and sealed (use flashing tape and foam).
- Finishing touches on exterior and interior: Add new exterior trim, flashing, and caulking. Add new window casing and trim inside.

“We had an old front window that extended out from the house and started showing signs of draft and structural wear. The team did an excellent job replacing our outdated 3-D puzzle window with a modern 3-sectional upright window. The install was smooth, the window looks fantastic, and it’s already made a big difference in comfort and energy efficiency. Highly recommend Sidex for any future work on my house!”
